In North Carolina, almost 250 pounds of food waste are created per person each year. The most popular way that food waste is diverted from the landfill is composting. But what exactly is composting? Kat Nigro, Head of Marketing & Engagement at CompostNow, joined us in the studio to explain the composting process.

A nonprofit is changing lunchrooms, one tray at a time. Sue Scope is the Executive Director of Every Tray Counts, an organization that's working toward a sustainable lunchroom.

Since the beginning of this year, Millbrook Magnet Elementary School Environment Connections has diverted more than 5,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill. Sean Russell, the school’s Environmental Connections Integration Specialist, tells us what the experience has been like.
